The Challenge

One of the world’s leading producers of paper, pulp and fiber-based packaging needed a solution for premature chain wear in their bark screen operation. Even though their current chain featured oil-filled bushings designed to keep the chain pins lubricated, dirt and bark worked its way into the screen, causing wear and failure. The competitor’s roller chain only lasted up to 13 weeks.

The Solution

To solve this issue, Drives experts recommended Extended Life CHP® chain. This chain features chrome-hardened pins that provide an extremely hard, durable surface to decrease the wear between the pin and bushing. For such an application, Extended Life CHP chain was able to provide outstanding wear and shock-load performance.

The Result

The switch to Drives® Extended Life CHP chain saved the paper company more than $357,730 in chain, sprocket and lost production expenses. Service life increased to 130 weeks, 10 times longer than the competitor’s solution.
