The Challenge

A major US oil company was experiencing problems during its directional drilling operation. Directional drilling equipment is used in the oil and gas industry to drill into oil reservoirs which can not be reached using conventional vertical drilling. Due to these high shock loads, this caused the competitor’s chain to consistently break and led to unnecessary downtime for the oil company.

The Solution

To solve this issue, Drives recommended its API roller chain. This chain features wide-waisted plates, through-hardened pins and ballized pitch hole suface finish for improved fatigue strength. Then, solid bushings and rollers aim to extend chain wear life.

The Result

The switch to Drives® API roller chain saved the oil drilling company more than $60,000 after one year and $300,000 after five years.
